I got an email from Shannon this morning:
"Happy New Year Everyone!!
Just an update to let you know that we're alive and well. Right now we're enjoying the fan in an internet cafe, trying to escape the sun and nurse our burns from yesterday's snorkelling trip (not serious burns.. mostly on our calves). Anyway, to keep this from turning into a novella, I'll just list some of the things we've seen and done. Hemm hemmm hemmmm..
1. Fought with a fiesty little Korean girl that wouldn't let us into the business lounge in the Seoul airport, and then flaunting our access ticket in her face after at least 1/2 an hour of schlepping through the airport and begging. BOO YA!
2. Enjoying my first ever business class meals on an airplane. MAN, do they treat people better up in front. I got fruit all the time, and cheese, cheese, cheese. Of course, Donovan and I took all the free lotions, etc., from the plane for the rest of our trip. :)
3. Enduring a long bus ride up to Bagiou (7 hours) after all that time on the plane, and then having to crash in a really expensive crap hole because our hotel put our reservation for the 27th instead of the 26th.
4. Surviving one of the scariest long term experiences of my life (7 hours of hanging off the side of a cliff on a muddy road in a scary sounding bus whose brakes squeaked, and sounded like it would punk out on the upwards portions of the trip)... oh, and getting more pee than I can remember ever getting on my feet in China at the bus stops.. blech...
5. Caving in a WONDERLAND. It was so beautiful and exciting to fit through tiny holes, and wade through the chest high water. We'll have to show you pictures.
6. Enjoying the rice terraces that actually took my breath away (mostly on that scary bus trip, though I may have lost some of my breath due to the fact that I thought i might die)
7. Crashing in the worst possible hotel I've ever stayed in. Donovan killed 5 cockroaches, and I killed one in less than an hour. I couldn't sleep most of the night due to the sounds of rats, mice, or roaches trying to scratch thorugh the cardboard walls. And then waking up the next day, and going to the airport to find out that our flight has been cancelled (after hours and hours of waiting) - and having to wait in line at the bus stop for tickets on ANOTHER long bus journey.. AGAIN. We had to eat our connecting flight ticket to Puerto princessa, and had to find accommodations in Manila the night before new years.
8. Body surfing on some huge waves in Sabang. Donovan and I both felt like baby's butts after surfing, because we got majorly exfoliated due to all the sand in the water. I got a big smack down that had water/snot oozing out of my nose for 10 mins. SEXY.
9. Enjoying our beautiful hut in Sabang... pics will explain. :)
10. Being pelted by rain and waves on a 2.5 hours boat journey to coconut island resort: home of the meal nazis. You could only eat at certain times and there was only one expensive restaurant. Donovan and i made the executive decision to bail the next day, and good thing we did!!! :)
11. Our cottage here in El Nido is beautiful. There are flowers outside, everywhere, and the food in El Nido is good and varied. MMMM.
12. Snorkeling for a whole day...
Time is up! Gotta run!!
xooxoxoxox,
Shanny "
Oh. My. God. Does that ever sound fun =P
